How to get cigars for free
Simple man's guide
Look…
You’re about to discover one of my most powerful, influential assets that my success can be partially credited to through a bizarre but true story that took place on Saturday…
So that you get a kick up the ass to build your own.
(Finish this email to find out how I got a $100 cigar for free)
Let me set the scene for you…
Manchester, England - Saturday 1st March, 11pm.
2 of my close friends are down drinking in the bustling city nightlife while I’m at home prepping for a huge upcoming addition to the WTF community…
And after a while they end up in some posh bar which is renowned for its middle to upper class enjoyment - cocktails are £30, everyone’s wearing watches worth 4-figures, and the “vibe” is that of a Bond movie.
“Excuse me, is anyone sitting here?”, An authoritative voice lays out…
In good old English fashion, my friends allow 3 people to take a seat at their large but intimate table:
An average-looking man, his partner, and a relative - all in their 40’s.
Now, some time passes as the subtle yet prominent music fills the atmosphere…
But as is tradition in all English pubs, bars, and clubs; Conversation is sparked between the 2 parties.
(That being my friends and the freshly sat boozers)
Anyway, besides the introductory small talk and some fluff which isn’t important to this story…
The subject of “what do you do for work?” arose.
This is where it gets juicy…
As the man, no longer a stranger to my friends, explained he works in marketing, doing something with a complicated name my friends don’t even remember.
Now this is where I come in…
“Oh yeah, our close friend is a copywriter… Works with someone called Bob Mcdoodle.”
Bob Mcdoodle is, of course, a pretend name for confidentiality reasons - all you need to know is they are my biggest client.
Hear that coming? Sounds like a bomb…
“Really? Good on him. I’ve worked with Bob multiple times in the past, I actually have him in my contacts”, said the man before he doxed Bob’s number to my friends lmao.
Seconds after, and without hesitation, the man reached into his pocket…
No, he didn’t pull a knife like is usual in England…
He whipped out an unsmoked, sealed, perfect condition Montecristo cigar…
“Tell your mate that’s on me!”
So here I am typing this email, Montecristo on my desk and a reminder of how powerful networking is.
Did networking have anything to do with that specific story?
Only in the backend.
As it was through networking alone where I was able to sign Bob Mcdoodle along with my business partner…
Eventually leading to a dude giving me a free cigar because of it.
“Interesting story Presley, but how do I start networking?”
Talk to people.
It’s that simple.
I met my business partner, albeit virtually, because of a joke - now we work together.
The power of the digital economy is truly underutilized…
People are scared to reach out and talk with others in their field or close to their field.
Just last week I sent a dm to an Agency owner who followed me - I learnt quite a bit about ad management and now have him as a resource I can contact in future.
Last year I emailed a budding copywriter because I liked his content - we still email back and forth, yesterday he provided me with some insight on cold traffic sourcing for a client of mine.
I’ve got many more examples to list, but this email is too long and I need to eat something.
See you later,
Presley
P.S. If you struggle to find copy to analyse on Swiped.co given it’s all “old”, Pol just dropped a video analysing a few “old” pieces - worth a watch if you want to up your practicing game (which is necessary to see payments btw) - Link below for you:
